Lochaber Yacht Club was established in 1954 at the old Naval Base at Corpach in a Nissen hut, sponsored by British Aluminium Company. The Club then moved to the Old Mill, courtesy of Mick Sutton. With the advent of the Pulp Mill the Club moved to Downies Boat Sheds on Achintore Road. In 1982 under the leadership of Commodore Peter MacLennan a new clubhouse was built at Ashburn in an ideal place 500m south of Fort William. In Novenber 2006 a disastrous fire destroyed the building. In spite of this sailing continued in the 2007 season while a replacement and much improved clubhouse was built. A year after the fire this is now in use.See photos in the gallery.
