Thursday Club Nights anyone interested in learning to sail or just finding out about the club is welcome to come on Thursday evenings. Usually it will be possible to arrange for a beginner to have a go, etc.

Each year we try to organise a sailing course for beginners (Adults and Juniors) to Learn to Sail. Dates, details, and costs can be found on the Learn to Sail application form.

These training courses are fully resourced by the Club, with the rescue boats and most of the dinghies and kit provided by the Club, and instructors, who give their time free. In addition the Club has 3 RS Fevas and 3 Toppers for the free use of junior trainees, also two Wayfarers, an RS Vision and a Laser Fun available for the free use of adults.

RYA Power boat courses “Safety Boat” and “Level 2” will be run on various dates through the year.

The Club has been a recognised RYA teaching establishment for over twenty years and has a senior instructor ( a RYA Class Racing Coach ) as training principal, several dinghy instructors, powerboat instructors and a coach assessor – all volunteers.

Other courses eg Day Skipper or Diesel engine maintenance are organised according to demand. So if you need a course let someone on the committee (Committee & Contacts) know.

The club has, as required by the RYA, a Health and Safety Policy and a Child Protection Policy (these can be seen in the members section). The Lochaber Challenger Association which runs sailing for the disabled has a standing invitation to attend, and is appropriately organised, with training sessions and a race event.

Once people have completed the sailing course many go on to develop their sailing skills and one of the ways to do this is through the RYA “Zone” – local coaching for talented young sailors who are looking to develop their racing skills to progress into the RYA UK Junior Squad.

It allows people who aren’t in national squads to have access to some top coaching during the winter. For more information  go to the RYA Scotland website. (Racing/Youth and Junior/Squads/Zone).
